The noise volume that cascades around me at a high end cafe eatery is as high as the prices for a simple drink. When did the volume get turned up? Seems a lot to swallow. Looking for a controlled volume environment. May the silence be with us, as it can.

Hi Sheila — I personally am going to leave the City as soon as I get the money. I feel like a rat stuck in a cage where they are playing ear-splitting music 24 hours a day and being a musician with sensitive ears, I have realized how it is much it is tearing down both my health and my sanity. Furthermore, I live in now what is the most chic neighborhood of Manhattan, one flight up in the front of an old tenement, and because I can’t have cloth in the apartment (asthma, dust mites, etc) I can’t even use drapes carpets etc. which would probably dampen the noise level.
All this said – there are different types of noise and the beauty of horses stampeding close by compared to the obnoxious chatter of people who don’t know how to be quiet are two very different things. Thanks for bringing up the subject. Lia
You are so right, I just do these writing prompts, and the word was “volume.” These folks are deafer than I am, which is pretty bad. Woe to us. Let’s catch up. Thanks for your attention!!
Hi, Sheila.I ‘hear’ you. On the UWS the ambulance and fire engine sirens roar in my ears. I walked into my favorite coffee bar today around 1 PM and was stunned by the unusual ambience; few people at their laptops and no music; quiet. A blessing. —Carol
I feel this so much – you expressed it so beautifully, thank you for sharing xo
